King Hussein International Airport Strategic Plan

Avia was appointed by the Aqaba Development Corporation to undertake a two-phase project in support of the introduction of a potential Public Private Partnership (PPP) for the development and operation of King Hussein International Airport (KHIA), Aqaba, the primary tourism gateway for Jordan.

The objective of the first phase of the assignment was the development of a high level Strategic Plan for KHIA. This plan determined the scope and scale of the investment opportunity and its potential appeal to outside investors.  The project included:

• Traffic market assessment and long term traffic projections.
• Infrastructure and future capacity requirement assessment.
• Financial and regulatory assessment including the development of a comprehensive financial model.

The project concluded with an evaluation of the potential value of the airport under a range of development options to determine the most appropriate approach to the PPP, culminating with a recommended transaction structure, process and timeline. Phase 2 of the project will involve the management and delivery of the PPP process, scheduled to commence by the end of the year.
