AviaSolutions Client Myanmar National Airlines takes delivery of brand new Boeing 737 as part of its International Strategic Growth Plan

SINGAPORE, June 16, 2015 — In February 2014, GE Capital Aviation Services Limited (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of GE, announced its AviaSolutions consulting business had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Myanmar National Airlines, the flag carrier of Myanmar, to create and advise on the implementation of a strategic growth plan for the airline.

Since then AviaSolutions has worked with the airline’s senior management on the project that includes an international expansion strategy utilizing the airline’s newly leased Boeing narrow bodies to serve the business and tourism sectors.

Yesterday,the Myanmar national carrier’s new Boeing 737 aircraft, the first of its new international fleet, arrived in Yangon ahead of international flights due to commence later this summer.  Myanmar National Airlines (MNA) will be flying internationally for the first time in 22 years, initially to Singapore, followed by flights to other foreign cities.

With its brand new Boeing 737, the latest addition to the airline’s fleet of 10, along with five aircraft still on order, the national carrier is planning to expand internationally.

Three million people visited Myanmar in 2014 and it expects to welcome five million tourists in 2015. The last twelve months have seen the addition of an improved computerised reservations system, highlighting MNA’s ambition to become a major international airline in the regional aviation market.
