Bologna Airport traffic forecast and design day inputs

In 2023, Aeroporto di Bologna appointed Avia Solutions to prepare an updated passenger and ATM forecast to support the airport’s Masterplan process.

Building on our prior work in 2017, the project included long term traffic forecasts to 2046 (pax, ATMs, cargo) and detailed design day modelling for every IATA season from 2024 to 2028 to reflect temporary terminal constraints during a major phased expansion programme.

Working closely with AdB operations and traffic teams, we re-optimised schedules to maintain service levels during construction, while providing unconstrained long-term demand scenarios to guide infrastructure phasing and commercial planning.

The work also included peak-hour analyses, stand demand forecasts and detailed inputs into CAST passenger-flow simulation.

Our insights enabled AdB to align capacity delivery with market demand, minimise operational risk during construction, and provide a clear long-term growth pathway to regulators and stakeholders.
