Estafeta Mexico Operational Audit -
In November 2015, the AviaSolutions’ Airlines team performed an aviaquality operational audit for Estafeta in Mexico.
Estafeta is the express parcel delivery leader in the domestic market with an Air Cargo division (Estafeta Carga Aérea) based in San Luis de Potosi, 400km north of the capital. It operates a fleet of four Boeing 737-300Fs and two Bombardier CRJ-100Fs and covers 13 domestic destinations and one international point (Miami). In 2015, the airline transported more than 30,000 tons of cargo.
The objective of the avia quality audit was to review Estafeta’s operations in order to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs and raise quality. The team spent a week in Estafeta’s main hub at San Luis de Potosi, interviewing the entire management team, key postholders and pilots, and reviewed airline data. It also spent a night following the impressive operations where over 70,000 parcels arrive, are sorted and then re-dispatched across the country by aircraft and truck. AviaSolutions presented its report to Estafeta management which identified key areas for improvement that combined, could reduce cost by up to 2%. One of the key recommendations was in the area of fuel management and the amount of fuel uploaded on each flight. AviaSolutions made specific recommendations on choice of alternate airports in flight plans, one engine taxiing and choice of airports for refueling. Considering the margins of the express delivery industry, this important cost saving was welcomed by Estafeta’s senior management team. AviaSolutions also made some key recommendations in order to improve quality, reporting and efficiency. A weekly and monthly dashboard was presented to improve reporting and enable better decision making by the senior management team.
